Świnoujście Offshore Terminal has commenced operations for the Ocean Winds’ BC-Wind project

Ultimately, the terminal will serve as a strategic hub for the ORLEN Group’s second-phase offshore wind projects – Baltic East and Baltic West”, comments Sebastian Wionczek, Managing Director, Świnoujście Offshore Terminal.

The terminal is well positioned in relation to our project area and will provide important support for the next stage of works. We are now focusing on preparing the terminal to receive the foundations and ensuring a smooth start to offshore installation works”, says Pete Geddes, BC-Wind Project Director, Ocean Winds. 

As part of the preparation of the port area, Ocean Winds has also signed a contract with Team Project, a company based near Szczecin. The company will be responsible for carrying out temporary reprofiling works at the terminal, including preparing, levelling and compacting the area, which will be used to support operations involving wind turbine foundations and transition pieces. The involvement of a local contractor demonstrates the practical application of domestic capabilities in the delivery of an offshore wind project.

The foundations of the BC-Wind offshore wind farm will consist of 27 monopiles and transition pieces. The monopiles will form the foundations for the wind turbines and the offshore substation. They will have diameters ranging from 9.5 to 10.5 metres and lengths of approximately 66 to 89 metres, nearly the height of a 30-storey building. The transition pieces will be installed on top of the monopiles, connecting the foundations to the turbine towers. They will also be equipped with platforms providing safe access to the turbines for service technicians.

Installation works related to the BC-Wind foundations will be carried out using specialised installation vessels and precision positioning systems. Monopile installation is planned for the end of the first and beginning of the second quarter of 2027, while the installation of the transition pieces is scheduled for the third and fourth quarters of 2027.

The BC-Wind offshore wind farm is Ocean Winds’ first project in the Baltic Sea. Located approximately 23 km off the Polish coast, the project will comprise 26 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines with a planned total capacity of up to 390 MW. The wind farm will be capable of supplying renewable electricity to almost half a million Polish households each year.

For ORLEN Neptun, the commencement of the lease by Ocean Winds is of strategic importance: Świnoujście Offshore Terminal is beginning to serve as an operational hub for offshore wind projects while simultaneously building the experience and capabilities required for future ORLEN Group investments. Cooperation on the BC-Wind project demonstrates that Polish port infrastructure can effectively support the delivery of large-scale offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea while strengthening the domestic supply chain for the offshore wind sector.
