The installation terminal for offshore wind farms in Świnoujście is under construction. Work is proceeding according to plan
Construction of the Świnoujście Offshore Terminal is underway. In recent months, the harbor basin has been cleared, the necessary demolition work has been carried out, the substructure has been prepared and the construction of the buildings has begun. Work continues on preparing the quays. ORLEN Neptun's investment will be launched in 2025, and will be the first terminal of its kind in Poland and one of the most modern in Europe.
- Construction is proceeding on schedule, without any delays. This is possible thanks to model cooperation with a contractor experienced in such projects and the Szczecin and Świnoujście Port Authority. I can assure you that the work will be completed on schedule within the agreed deadline - said Robert Nowicki, CEO of ORLEN Neptun.
The project consists of several phases. Already in May of 2023, demolition began, first in the land part of the area designated for construction, then in the water part. Among other things, the shipbuilding pier was removed, along with some 370 reinforced concrete piles on which it was placed, and the basin was cleaned. In addition to various types of scrap metal, numerous reinforced concrete elements, wooden piles, as well as unexploded World War II munitions (including aerial bombs and deep-sea torpedoes and artillery shells) were excavated.
The next step was to begin work on the construction of the two buildings. Delivery of aggregate, serving as the terminal's pavement, has also begun. In the next few months, construction and installation work will be carried out in the buildings, as well as ground reinforcement work within the quays (so-called piling).
The land part of the installation terminal is being built on an area of nearly 20 hectares. Key components of offshore wind turbines, such as towers, blades and nacelles, will be handled and stored here. The terminal will also be able to receive offshore transformer stations weighing up to 24,000t.
The investment in Świnoujście will be conveniently accessible by all modes of transport: rail, ferry, air and road. In addition, the inland location will guarantee optimal weather conditions once the terminal begis its operation. The terminal will eventually employ about a hundred workers. Some of them will be graduates of Świnoujście Maritime School, who have begun specialized training guided by ORLEN Neptun professionals.
The Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority is responsible for the construction of the hydrotechnical part of the investment. Its task is to build and put into operation two new quays. At the same time, the waterway will also be dredged.
The new quays will have technical parameters that are above standard for port conditions, mainly in terms of permissible payloads. This will allow the initial installation of wind turbine towers more than 100 meters high and weighing about 1,000 tons each. The length of the quays, which in both cases is about 250 meters, will allow for handling of the largest currently available specialized jack-up vessels used for the installation of 14 MW and larger turbines, as well as heavy lift vessels used for the transportation of wind turbine foundations.
